Fire Suppression
with Gaseous Clean Agents
T & S specializes
in engineered and pre-engineered fire suppression systems utilizing
clean agents such as CO2
,
FM-200, FE-13 and inergen. Our in house CAD design engineering department
has been factory trained to design and install all of the above systems.
Halon 1301
production ceased on January 1, 1994. T & S immediately began selling
and installing the new environmentally safe replacement agents FM-200,
FE-13 and inergen. These three agents are approved for occupied areas
by the EPS and NFPA 2001. T & S has always been on the cutting edge
of this technology.

FM-200
Fire Suppression Systems
| |
 |
Clean, fast active
fire protection for sensitive
industrial and commercial facilities. FM-200 is
one of the new halon replacement agents now
in use to protect essential applications tradition-
ally protected by Halon 1301. This agent has many
similar characteristics to Halon 1301 and is safe
in normally occupied areas. T & S has been selling
FM-200 since its inception in 1993 and today we |
|
| |
are installing
KIDDE FM-200 systems throughout North Carolina,
South Carolina, Virginia and several other states. KIDDE FM-200
systems are available in vertical or horizontal cylinders and
can be
designed as pre-engineered or more commonly engineered systems. |
|

HOW DOES
IT PROTECT A FACILITY?
- KIDDE detector
senses a fire.
- KIDDE control
panel sounds alarm, shuts down equipment,
activates the KIDDE FM-200 system.
- FM-200 is released
from the cylinders through piping and
out nozzles into the protected area.
- In ten (10) seconds
or less the protected area reaches a
concentration level of FM-200 (7% by design) that will not
support combustion.

Carbon Dioxide
(CO2
) Fire Suppression Systems
KIDDE clean
agent carbon dioxide systems have been an industry standard for
many decades and are still the preferred agent in many applications:
- Dip tanks
- Quench tanks
- Industrial operations where
spilled fuel is a possibility
- Marine engine compartments
- Steel manufacturing
- Press operations
Also for many other areas requiring
large quantities of extinguishing agent.

FE-13 Fire
Suppression Systems
Due to
its low boiling point, FE-13 can be used in temperatures as low
as -40º F. Some typical applications include:
- Industrial high ceiling spaces
- Locomotives
- Mining equipment
- Offshore oil platforms
- Oil and gas processing facilities
- Pumping stations
- Refinery control areas
- Turbine enclosures
- Unheated storage areas

| This SCORPIO
Control Panel is a low cost, versatile, single hazard control unit
which supervises one KIDDE fire suppression system. Incorporation
of the state-of-the-art microprocessor technology provides increased
reliability and programmable flexibility. The control unit is compatible
with all KIDDE suppression systems. It meets requirements of NFPA
72 and is UL listed per standard 864. The control unit is approved
for use in suppression systems covered by NFPA codes 12, 12A, 17,
and 2001.
This unit features the ability of
mixing smoke and contact type detectors on the same Initiating
circuit, simplifying installation and reducing installation costs.
The control unit has two independent Class "B" Initiating
circuits. A total of 15 FENWAL smoke detectors can be connected
to each of the control units two Initiating circuits. Contact
type devices such as FENWAL's DETECT-A-FIRE® heat detectors
may also be connected to the same circuit Total lead resistance
of 50 Ohms allows extended detection circuit wire runs.
The unit may be programmed to activate
its output functions on a single zone or crossed zoned input status
alarm allowing flexibility for use in various types of applications.
Field programmable time delays of 0, 10, 20 or 30 seconds allow
the installer to select the appropriate time delay for the application.
The control unit provides a single
"Y" supervised alarm output circuit for operating polarized
signaling devices. The output circuit is programmed to pulse on
first alarm and go to steady on second alarm and release condition.
An independent Form "C" dry contact is associated with
each of the two alarm levels.
The control unit drives control head
operated release valve so the unit can be used with the Engineered
and Pre-Engineered extinguishing systems. The release circuit
will activate either of the following 24 VDC control heads.

| Kidde's Gemini
Controls Suppression Control System is a complete, self- contained
control unit designed specifically for Kidde Fire Suppression Systems.
Its modular design can accommodate from 1 to 4 independent suppression
systems.
In its simplest configuration, the
system provides input and output functions to protect one hazard
area. Additional hazard areas can be protected by adding detection
circuit or suppression control boards. All detection zones are
field selectable for Class A or Class B supervision of field wiring.
The suppression control sequence is programmable, providing flexibility
for a wide variety of applications.
Power supplies are available in 2.75
and 4 Amp versions, and can be added to the system for up to 8
Amps capacity at 24 VDC.
Auxiliary relay boards can be added
easily to the system for additional control functions such as
HVAC shutdown and door holder release. The following components
are available for the Gemini Controls Suppression Control System.

Industrial systems are commonly
installed for the protection of paint spray booths, dip tanks, pumps
and other industrial equipment. Most systems of this type feature either
Purple-K dry chemical, ABC dry chemical or regular BC dry chemical.

INERGEN
Fire Suppression
Systems
| Description |
INERGEN
agent is a mixture of three naturally occurring gases: nitrogen,
argon, and carbon dioxide. As INERGEN agent is derived from gases
present in the earth’s atmosphere, it exhibits no ozone
depleting potential, does not contribute to global warming, nor
does it contribute unique chemical species with extended atmospheric
lifetimes. Because INERGEN agent is composed of atmospheric gases,
it does not pose the problems of toxicity associated with the
chemically derived Halon alternative agents.
INERGEN agent has also been tested
by FMRC for inerting capabilities. Those tests have shown that
INERGEN agent, at design concentrations between 40% and 50%, has
successfully inerted mixtures of propane/air, and methane/air.
When INERGEN agent is discharged
into a room, it introduces the proper mixture of gases that will
allow a person to breathe in a reduced oxygen atmosphere. |
